Volos
The city of Volos is closely connected with Greek mythology and is considered the legendary homeland of the Argonauts, from where Jason began his famous journey in search of the Golden Fleece. The city lies at the foot of the mythical Mount Pelion, known as the mountain of the Centaurs. According to mythology, Pelion was the summer residence of the Olympian Gods and the place where the Centaurs lived, developing early knowledge of botany and medical science.
Volos is also well known for its traditional gastronomy. Throughout the city you will find many traditional “tsipouradika” and “ouzeri”, small taverns where you can enjoy local tsipouro accompanied by a variety of delicious appetizers, mainly fresh seafood and fish dishes.
During your stay, you can visit several attractions such as the Archaeological Museum of Volos, the beautiful city port, and the historic district of Palaia, an area full of taverns, nightlife and vibrant atmosphere. The seaside promenade and the port of Volos offer beautiful views that captivate every visitor, while the nearby commercial street Ermou features numerous shops and boutiques just a short distance from Volos View Apartments.
Close to the city you can also explore the important archaeological site of Sesklo, dating back to around 6000 BC, considered one of the oldest Neolithic settlements in Europe. Another remarkable site is the ancient theatre of Mikrothives, which highlights the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Finally, from the port of Volos you can easily visit the beautiful Sporades islands — Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos — with daily ferry routes that reach the islands within two to three hours. These islands are famous for their crystal-clear waters, stunning beaches and lush green landscapes. Skiathos and Skopelos also gained worldwide fame as filming locations for the popular movie “Mamma Mia!”, and daily cruises are available to visit many of the locations where the movie was filmed.
